Board of Directors approves engineering contract | Akron.com
COVENTRY – At a special Coventry Local Schools School Board meeting on June 30, members approved a contract with Wright Engineering to provide the district with a comprehensive study and comprehensive support plan to replace the cooling system in the Coventry Middle School, the program to check and perform electrical upgrades involving a transformer replacement.
Superintendent Lisa Blough said the district is working with an independent engineer instead of just embarking on a full chiller replacement, which is expensive.
“It is essential that we are as confident as possible that the replacement equipment will effectively and efficiently meet the demands of the building today and in the future,” said Blough. “As an independent company, they [Wright Engineering] are not selling the equipment to us, so their perspective is really what is in the best interest of the district, without making a profit. Therefore, as they develop a plan, they will be able to explain how these improvements and recommendations will impact future planning and costs.
Also during the meeting, the Board of Directors approved a contract with Public Finance Resource (PFR). Blough said the district has previously worked with PFR and as the district is released from the budget emergency, the company will serve as a secondary support system to monitor the district’s finances and complete the ongoing analysis of spending, planning and forecasting.
The council also approved a change in the contract with Petermann Bus on one of the buses purchased by the district, as it turned out to be worth more than what was initially determined and agreed to by both parties.
“After reviewing all of the details involved, the district agreed to pay an additional $ 5,000 for the increased value of the bus,” said Blough. “It was a fair and reasonable amount given that the bus is worth more than what we will ultimately pay for it.”
The next regular board meeting will be on July 21 at 6 p.m. at Coventry Elementary School, located at 3089 Manchester Road.
